The order manager plays a crucial role in the order process from the moment orders are ready to be processed. Their role encompasses numerous responsibilities that ensure efficient service for customers. In fact, they are responsible for ensuring that orders are processed correctly while maintaining open communication with customers, thereby ensuring clear tracking.

The Responsibilities of an Order Manager

The order manager must be able to identify and correct any errors in orders that were not automatically detected by our WMS—whether due to typos or incorrect addresses, for example—to ensure that orders reach their recipients within the contracted time frame.

He is the first point of contact for lead preparers when they get stuck at any stage of the preparation process: he is there to provide them with a quick solution or to take over the order himself if necessary.

The order manager is responsible for arranging shipping for oversized packages or those destined for international markets. By preparing quotes, they determine the most appropriate carrier. To do this, they gather shipping rates from relevant carriers, evaluating various criteria such as destination, weight, and package size, in order to offer each customer a tailored shipping solution that meets their specific needs.

Pallets wrapped in plastic and placed on a shelf

The order manager is also responsible for overseeing the smooth handling of non-daily courier pickups ( collection of packages or pallets by the customer or their carrier), ensuring that data is properly recorded and processed. They must be able to prioritize tasks to meet deadlines andefficiently fulfill customer requests.

In summary, the order manager serves as the link between customers and the order fulfillment team, ensuring optimal order processing, transparent communication with customers, and effective coordination with carriers to guarantee customer satisfaction and loyalty.

What training and qualifications are required to become an order manager?

To become an order manager, having completed training specific to the industry is an asset.

It is recommended that you have a degree in management or administration. Having developed skills in customer relations is also a plus.

To gain a more practical understanding of the job, you can complete an internship that will give you a deeper insight into the day-to-day work of an order manager and help you appreciate the full scope of their responsibilities.

The CSR aspect of the order management profession

Like his colleagues, the order manager must ensure that he contributes to the development of Logisseo’s CSR initiative. In this context, he pays close attention to potential opportunities to reduce the company’s environmental impact.

For example, he makes sure to consolidate orders whenever possible for shipping. By doing so, he helps reduce pollution, as it cuts down on the number of trips made by delivery drivers.

If an order is canceled, the manager must act quickly to intercept the affected packages and prevent unnecessary shipments. This also has an impact on material resources, which are consequently saved. As a result, order pickers do not have to pack the packages unnecessarily.
